Rokin Station digs deep

December 2010 – The 9.7 kilometre North-South underground line in Amsterdam will have eight stations once it is completed. Rokin Station, in the heart of the city, will be 26.5 m below ground level. More than 50,000 passengers will use the station every day, making it one of the busiest stations on the line. De Boer Buizen supplied steel tubes for the supports for this project and De Boer Snijbedrijf cut a range of components to size.

The construction work on the station involved the use of diaphragm walls. That involves digging deep vertical trenches between steel sheets and then filling the trenches with concrete. The walls that result are kept in place with support structures. These supports consist of tubes, profiles and various components cut to size. De Boer Snijbedrijf is supplying the cut components for Max Bögl Nederland and De Boer Buizen is supplying steel tubes. Transwelding from Hensbroek is welding the support structure together and installing it in the construction pit. Later, the support structure will be transformed into the floors for the underground car park and bike shelter that will be built over Rokin station. In this way, De Boer Snijbedrijf and De Boer Buizen are helping to maintain easy access to Amsterdam.
